the mentorship Program
What Is The mentorship Program?
The Mentorship Program is a strong and very important component to both the Transition Honduras program and the Formation for Life program as we know that when the youth leaves the home that they have grown up in and starts an independent life out in the society they will need to have good people with good values and a servant heart to walk alongside them through this process.
The majority of youth transitioning out of children’s homes don’t have a network or family to receive them when starting their independent life out in society, which means that we as an organization and their former children’s home often are the only lifeline that they have when celebrating successes or are in need of help.
In cooperation with UJBH (the Honduran Baptist Youth) and Street Kids Direct, we are working on getting each of our youth mentors that can support them for at least a year. Street Kids Direct has provided mentorship material, and UJBH has, through their Timoteos project, been training young UJBH volunteers to become good mentors and help these youth from the children’s homes get involved in a church network.
The Timoteos project is working on creating relationships with the youth out at the children’s homes around the capital, Tegucigalpa, so even before going into transition, the youth have seen the Timoteo team’s face make a huge difference in a young person’s life.
Our long term goal is to be able to connect with churches all over Honduras that are interested in getting involved in supporting youth coming out of children’s homes and getting trained in how to become mentors for those without a support system.
